Gotico

Gotico is a gem of a painting by Andrea Giovannini. Small and narrow, this painting evokes the hush of people walking across the floor of a cathedral, or train station, as seen and heard from far above, in the rafters, not far from a rose window that lets in that perfect measure of light. Everyone goes about his or her business, but from that distance, or height, the pace is slowed, the intensity softened. Tourists? Commuters? Regardless, there is something devout about this simple scene.
